It almost seemed impossible to be compensated so well in a public
relations
internship. It's even better if you're not from the area. The Princetown
Review
lists it as a five star program and it is. If your home address is 40
miles from
Abbott Park, they will put you up in a Marriott Residence Inn for the
summer,
along with tons of other interns. As an undergraduate you have to share
a suite,
but graduate interns get studios. The two inn locations are both 5 - 10
minutes
from Abbott Park and offer free breakfast Monday thru Friday and free
dinner
Monday thru Thursday. Breakfast isn't bad, but dinner could be better.
They have
free wine and beer as well for dinner. If you need a car for your job
and you
don't have one, they'll provide you with a vehicle to share with another
person
working in your area with a similar situation. You just have to pay for
gas. I
am
paid $14.75 an hour and I get paid for overtime. I know pay is based on
year in
school and field so I'm probably not at the highest end since although I
am
going
to be a senior, I am in communications. Abbott being a healthcare company
probably values a scientist more. $14.75 is not bad however, along with
free
housing and food! You are paid for company holidays like Independence
Day as
well. Although you don't get paid vacation time, managers are very
understanding
if you have travel plans you need to take a few days off for. Some
interns have
gotten to travel for their job. I haven't gotten to travel but I do get
to go to
the department rooftop seating Cubs game!
