I worked 23 yrs. for Abbott. I first started out in Accts. Payable and
was promoted up to AP Co-Ordinator. For the last six years before
retiring, I was the Fixed Asset Co-Ordinator.
I felt very fortunate to have been hired by Abbott as I only had two
yrs. of college. The Diagnostic Division was new and I was on the start
up hiring, so I was able to "grow" as the Division grew. The benefits
and opportunities for advancment was very good. There was no dress code
except you were expected to dress neat; clean and on designated visits
from Corp. officers, dress business. The normal work hours were 40/wk.,
however, with a new growing Division, the demands created moderate
overtime, especially during certain activities as yearly inventory;
Corp. yearly audits. With my advancement to Fixed Asset Co-Ordinator the
last six yrs. of working before retirement, I had a large responsibility
in my job. I worked with on-site managers including the site VP, as
well as many managers and Corp. audit personnel from the Corp. office in
Chicago, IL. Because I was willing to work hard; perform whatever tasks
asked of me; get additional training and education; I gained must
support and respect from the Management team within and outside of the
Control Dept. Abbott was very active in the diversity programs set forth
and every employee was trained and asked to participate in the yearly
diversity programs each year. I enjoyed them, as it was a way to learn
about the culture background of my fellow employees. Abbott was very
diversified in many cultures. I always felt very blessed to have been
able to work for such an outstanding and respected company. The
Diagnostics Division always treated me fairly and with much respect as
that was the philosopy of the corporation.
