The interviewing process featured four rounds of meetings, two in
person and two by telephone.
The first was a telephone interview with the HR manager, who
responded two hours after a resume was submitted to the
company in response to an online job opening for a graphic artist.
During the course of the initial phone call, the HR manager
determined that I was better suited to fill a Quality Control Artist
position, best described as a proofreader familiar with Macintosh
computers and graphic design software, responsible for
proofreading up to 200 print pieces per week.
The second and third rounds of interviews occurred on-site at the
hub in Pittsburgh. I first met with the HR manager for a 45-minute
face-to-face meeting, then with both the Graphics Print department
manager and the day shift supervisor. During this interview, I was
asked specific, detailed questions regarding my experience with
proofreading and editing, interacting with graphic artists and other
members of a graphic design team, and evaluated my skills as a
Macintosh operator.
Travel arrangements for the on-site interview were made by me.
The company did not reimburse me for travel expenses, car rental
or my one-night hotel stay.
The fourth interview was conducted by telephone with the head of
the Graphics Print department. He discussed my overall career
aspirations, and sought clarification of questions he had after
speaking with the Graphics Print manager, my potential shift
supervisor and the HR manager.
I was offered the position approximately one week after interviewing
with the Graphics Print manager.
