Admissions

Interviews are recommended but were not mandatory (however everyone who was accepted into the program was interviewed), financial aid was very easy to attain, and the admissions office was EXTREMELY helpful.

The academic environment is challenging and intense but the professors make the material interesting and are INCREDIBLY accessible. There are many many opportunities to travel and study abroad including GIE's, DBI's and exchanges. The workload is very demanding but you learn a tremendous amount.

Academics

The school has a well coordinated balance of case learning, academic journal study, experiential learning, global immersion study/study abroad, and independent study work. The school has a domestic and global consulting program with leading companies in a large variety of industries. The school has a research institute (Kenan Institute) on site that publishes innovative new studies. Faculty are consistently among the best in the world and the most cutting edge. The school has been a pioneer in teamwork, leadership, and sustainable enterprise theory and practice.

Quality of Life

The on campus housing for graduate students is brand new and extraordinary. The quality of life is outstanding. For example: sports- The University of North Carolina is one of only two universities to ever win the Director's Cup (along with Stanford) as the nation's top collegiate athletics program. Chapel Hill is safe, with many happy enterprenuerial students. It has been called the Southern part of Heaven.

Admissions

The school now only interviews on an invitation basis. The application essays are somewhat longer as compared to applications for other schools in order to better identify students with the determination to contribute to the growth of the program and fit with the collaborative and high performance culture.

Academics

The professors are fabulous. Well prepared and well credentialed, and very accessible. The core provides a great experience and is well coordinated. Also, have the opportunity to take electives early in the experience.

Quality of Life

Carolina is great, the facilities are nice, the weather is pleasant and the town is fun and accessible.

Admissions

The admissions process is defined by its unique ability to allow students to get to know the school. Campus visits allow for a chance to attend class, lunch with students, visit with students, and interview. I was able to understand the personality of the school at UNC Kenan-Flagler more than any of the other schools I visited.

Academics

The curriculum at UNC Kenan-Flagler is rigorous, flexible, and extremely useful for a long career in business. The core classes provide a strong foundation in a diverse range of important topics ranging from Statistics to Leadership. Beginning in the spring semester of the first year, students are allowed to begin tailoring their education by taking elective classes. The elective classes are challenging, informative, and provide the in-depth knowledge necessary for a long and successful career in business.

Quality of Life

The low cost of living in Chapel Hill is extremely helpful when trying to keep the student loan amount at a minimum. Chapel Hill has a quaint small-town feel, yet provides everything needed.

Admissions

The admissions process at UNC Kenan-Flagler is thorough, but not overly onerous. The process primarily consists of a school visit, an interview, and several essays. All admissions events are designed to help the admissions committee get to know each applicant’s background and career objectives. The admissions committee looks for talented students who have a track-record of success, a good understanding of personal career objectives, an ability to excel in team environments, and energy for challenge and learning.

Academics

The quality of the courses is phenominal. The professors are not only leaders in their field, but they are extremely strong in terms of student engagement and presentation style. They take teaching seriously, and are always available for students outside of class. The opportunities for practical application of the coursework are impressive. These opportunities include many partnerships with area corporations, student consulting projects, non-profit work, and more.

Quality of Life

Cost of living is very reasonable and allows students to live in nice condos or houses. Campus and surrounding area is beautiful, springtime is particularly nice.

Academics

The core classes are top notch. The classes are taught by distinguished professors and lay the foundation. The school offers a large selection of electives which allows students to choose among multiple concentrations, including the traditional routes (i.e. marketing and finance), but also concentrations in sustainability and real estate. The smaller class size provides high contact with professors.

The school prepares students with a on campus month long analytical skills workshop (ASW) before they matriculate. This provides the analytical skills to excel.

Study abroad programs - two week global immersion or semester long study abroad programs are available to all students.

Quality of Life

Heaven must be something like Chapel Hill in the spring time. UNC provides the perfect suburban experience. Chapel Hill is built around the school. The cost of living is low and the campus is one of the most beautiful in the country.

Admissions

UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School application process focuses on the traditional data points (GPA, GMAT, and work experience), but more importantly focuses on the interview. The fit with the school is very important. Kenan-Flagler emphasises excellence with a heart and students are expected to live and advance this credo.

The school also offers a unique student ambassador program. Current student escort prospective students to class, lunch, and on tours of the campus. The program really shows the warm Southern charm.

Academics

The faculty are outstanding with excellent pedigrees and training. Classes are a mix of lecture and case study, depending on the subject matter. Kenan-Flagler is particularly in sustainable enterprise with many unique course offerings.

Admissions

The admissions process consists of a standard application including GMAT, undergrad and work experience. In addition, candidates are interviewed and provide application essays, of which the questions were the most unique of all the schools I applied to.
