Professional, Practical, Challenging

5.0 of 5 stars

January 2017 | FORMER STUDENT

Uppers

Mature, diverse, and very engaged student body. Excellent professors who emphasize the kinds of practical knowledge relevant for professionals, while also providing intellectually challenging classes that aren't just watered down.

Downers

Location in Chicago is not ideal for lawyers seeking careers in NY or CA. Northwestern doesn't carry the same reputation as a Stanford, Columbia or even University of Chicago.

Comments

The emphasis on attracting students with job experience means the student body is mature, more focused and has a good perspective.

Location (Downtown Chicago) and the view at the library. I don´t think there is anything else I liked about Northwestern.

Downers

Everything, specially if you compare Northwestern with University of Chicago. The level of the professors and students was really low. They sell themselves as a Top 14 Law School, but I feel I was attending a top 100.

Comments

I can´t talk about the JD, but I can´t recommend the LL.M. program. I would consider other options.

You can't beat the location, right in the center of downtown Chicago by the lake. Northwestern has a strong business law focus and attracts top law firms to OCI.

Downers

Given its location, housing costs in the area are steep.

Comments

The student body is mature, with a higher than average age of entry, which was a big plus for me.

A Great Experience

5.0 of 5 stars

January 2016 | FORMER STUDENT

Uppers

The school certainly has a feeling of momentum. Experienced professors, and a student pool of people with past professional lives.

Downers

The career center is virtually useless, unless you're interested in on campus interviewing.

Comments

If you're looking for a law school that will provide outside-the-box opportunities, this is a great choice.

Northwestern provides students with a variety of courses to take, especially in business transaction area.

Downers

The campus is relatively small, and Chicago's winter is very cold.

Comments

If you are pursuing for JD program, you must try your best to get a very high LSAT score!

Mature Students

October 2015 | CURRENT STUDENT

Uppers

Mature students with real world experience. Professors with practice experience, not just academics. OCI is very good, especially for Chicago.

Downers

Not much that I don't like. Med school and business students clog the library, which is annoying.

Comments

CLose to downtown, but in a pocket of the city that's not great for public transportation.

March 2015 | FORMER STUDENT

Top notch professors, curriculum, and classmates. A collegial, collaborative environment.

Downers

Somewhat focused on larger cities for career placement, but this has improved.

Comments

An ideal place to study law and spend three years in a compelling academic and urban setting.
