A Great Environment for Interns
2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Work hours were very flexible
Garmin did a very good job of making the internship "fun"
The stuff I was working on was enjoyable
The environment was very friendly

Downers

Very little feedback was given about how I was performing during the Summer. The only feedback given was at the end of the Summer, at which point we could not do much with said feedback.

Advice to Potential Interns

Expect a very friendly atmosphere where everyone helps each other out.

Advice to Management

It would be nice for the interns to receive more feedback.

Great experience, great opportunities
2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

The fact that we were able to do real work and weren't treated like some lesser employee. Also, the pay is pretty nice, too.

Downers

There is really nothing that I did not like.

Advice to Potential Interns

This is a truly phenomenal place to work and I would (and have) recommend it to anyone to apply.

Paid housing closet o work.

Downers

How far away it was from the city.

Advice to Potential Interns

Look at the pay against the area as well as the networking opportunities that you will receive.

Great Experience advancing my skills and networking with peers and professionals
2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

The people that I worked with, the company culture, the activities and other interns

Downers

Kansas is a conservative area and we were far from the downtown area

Advice to Potential Interns

Getting to know the other interns is great time! Garmin is a youthful, fun company with interesting work.

Advice to Management

Make diversity a point to include. Be inclusive of LGBT people

Fantastic Experience with Fun, Booming Company
2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

My team was great and my superiors were very engaging. They really want us to do well. It was a lot of fun to meet new people and see what kind of work is out there for me.

Downers

I actually couldn't find any cons, other than sometimes my mentor was a little too busy, which is understandable.

Advice to Potential Interns

Get to know people ASAP! You will have to work with them for three months!!

Advice to Management

All aspects were great. Perhaps improve training to make it less dry.

Great projects, great people, great program.
2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Lots of freedom to design my project.

Downers

I primarily worked alone on my project.

Advice to Potential Interns

Be clear about which division/projects you are interested in.

Advice to Management

Some of the hiring practices are confusing. i.e., asking about previous salaries, awkward order of phone vs on site interview.

Awesome company hires awesome people to do awesome work.
2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

I worked directly with a team of full time engineers. They definitely treated me like a part of the team.

Downers

I started out doing testing, and that isn't the most fun. That being said, most of the full time employees were also doing testing, so it didn't feel as bad.

Advice to Potential Interns

They definitely seemed to care about me.

One of the best experiences available, where every opportunity stretches and challenges you.
2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

The environment was very calm and gave way to a productive atmosphere. The projects I worked on matched my passion and taught me many things that I enjoyed learning. The social programs provided for the interns and staff were a great way to build team spirit and morale.

Downers

Some of the housing assignments were not very clean and optimal, but this may have been an issue with the campus and not on Garmin.

Advice to Potential Interns

Garmin does a very good job organizing their internship experience and they genuinely care about their future employees. The team organization is well structured and going to work does not feel like a chore. You are a part of the team and are treated as such.

Advice to Management

I am not sure how the promotion policies work just yet but the structure seems stable. I had some trouble with the Kronos time clocking program but that is only an hourly employee problem.
