The juice was worth the squeeze: BCG is as good as advertised.
Chicago, IL | 2013 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Varied work experience, good exposure to an actual case and responsbilities, ample opportunities to determine fit with the office

Downers

Some content of the in-office portion of training during orientation could have been more effectively delivered in pre-read slides.

Advice to Potential Interns

Take a large sample and determine if you are a true fit with the people of the organization, not just the brand prestige.

A chance to shape the future and make an impact on the world while supporting my personal growth through apprenticeship and collaboration.
Dallas, TX | 2013 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

The best aspects:

• Challenging work environment with significant learning opportunities

• Plenty of opportunities for fun and relaxation through intern events and office-wide events

• Support from every person each and every BCGer along the way

Downers

The worst aspects:

• Demanding and difficult client

• Getting comfortable with the consulting working environment

• Being new in a job and learning to ramp up fast

Advice to Potential Interns

Remember that you are new to the job and you may find it unsettling to work in a new environment on the top of the challenging case work. Your case team will not ask you to solve the entire client problem on the first day; you will be given small tasks to complete and you will ramp up slowly, so do not get frustrated by the mundane tasks that you have to complete the first few weeks of your internship. Your summer case assignment may not be your dream case, but do not let that sour your summer experience; you are new to consulting so you do not have the leverage to be picky before you have established a strong reputation for yourself. Lastly, because consulting is a case-based work environment, there is no typical day nor is there a typical case. Talk with other interns and consultants to get a greater understanding of all the opportunities at the firm.

Advice to Management

Provide more formally organized avenues for summer consultants to interact with Partners and ask question. Whether this is a lunch, a dinner, or a happy hour, give consultants more one-on-one opportunities with Partners or even senior principals. Also, establish more organized training program for interns. While interns are only there for a ten weeks, put more effort into utilizing the best consultants to train the summer consultants.

Absolute best way to spend your summer.
Chicago, IL | 2013 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Opportunity to do real, impactful work and "own" your own piece of the case- incredible responsibility for a summer intern. Wonderful people, learning and development opportunities, and lots of fun summer activities.

Downers

Only downside was being on a "local" case that required about 1.5 hours of horrible traffic / car travel per day to a suburb. All substantive parts of the experience were wonderful.

Advice to Potential Interns

A bit less of a "party culture" than some of the major firms, but still a ton of fun and filled wth awesome people. In fact, I'd say more substantive relationships because there is a bit less of an emphasis on the party culture.

Advice to Management

From the perspective of a summer intern, everything is already incredible in terms of being a great place to work.

Interns, royalty of the office
Chicago, IL | 2013 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

To list a few:

- Frequent interactions with industry leaders within the firm

- Emphasis on cultivating a culture of support

- Opportunities to be an owner of a small part of the project, with support at hand if needed

- Culture of constant feedback

- Constant search for ways to make internship enjoyable

- High (~100%) offer rates for full-time

Downers

Honestly, there was not a single part of the internship that did not meet of exceed expectations.

Advice to Potential Interns

BCG provides great support in entering the management consulting industry and works really hard to cater to your growth needs.
