An Amazing Opportunity to Learn from Tenured Business Professionals

4.9 of 5 stars

Washington, DC | 2013 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

-learning opportunities

-quality of projects

-opportunity to receive coaching

-access to many lines of business

Downers

I think this internship could have been improved with a review closer to the start date. This would allow interns to take better advantage of their first five weeks.

Advice to Potential Interns

PNC wants to give their interns the best possible training and opportunities to succeed. Make sure you take the initiative early and take advantage of the opportunities given to you.

Feeling like a part of the team, not just getting coffee or faxing documents. I performed many of the same tasks that the full-time employees performed, which made me feel like I as actually contributing.

Downers

Sometimes the work is tedious, but that is the nature of the beast which is audit.

Advice to Potential Interns

PNC has a great company culture, consisting of employees who really care about what they do, and inspire you to care as well.

The people I worked with. They were all great, and I will stay in contact with quite a few of them.

Downers

Waking up early every morning.

Advice to Potential Interns

Work hard, be open, and have a positive attitiude and everything will be fine.

Advice to Management

The independent project we needed to complete could have been managed better.

More than just a place to deposit your money, PNC offers opportunities in invesment banking, wealth management, and sales and trading.

PNC has the benefits of operating like a boutique day to day and as a bulge bracket bank in terms of its role within the financial industry.

Downers

I think the recruiting process is somewhat flawed in that they interview for very different positions together. (retail banking and investment banking for example)

Advice to Potential Interns

Don't follow the crowd. Chasing the same banks/positions as everyone else just because everyone else is chasing those positions keeps you from exploring which opportunities are best fit for you which sets you back in the long run.

The assignments given to me were open ended so I was able to put my own spin on things and really show my manager all that I can do. The networking opportunities were great as well.

Downers

A lot of the tasks of my group were done faster if completed my an actual full time employee rather than an intern.

Advice to Potential Interns

I really feel that this internship is the best place to start your career in the organizaton. PNC gives you the option to potetially change your line of business if you feel necessary. This is why I believe they have such a high retention rate for interns.

PNC as a company, and their employees really invest in their interns to make sure their interns have the best possible internship experience

Chicago, IL | 2013 | VERIFIED INTERN

The employees were extremely accessible. Everyone was so willing to teach me anything I wanted to know plus more, and they all wanted my assistance on big projects. I never felt overwhelmed, and my manager was so willing to work with my schedule outside of work that I was able to continue participating in my extracurricular activities. My coworkers really made me feel like I was a part of their team.

Downers

Sometimes, it was a little slow with the work load to get started. Once I realized that they just did not want to overwhelm me, they gave me much more work to do for them, and I was able to get a lot more hands on experience.

Advice to Potential Interns

Ask for work if you want more, and really take advantage of meetings that you have. This company gives you so much exposure to the Executive offices, and they really want you to succeed. This company wants to see you pursue whatever you think is the best fit- regardless of whether or not it is in their company. They truly pay you to teach you. As far as internship experiences go, it does not get much better than this. They also do a great job working around your schedule.

Advice to Management

Provide a more direct path for promotion opportunites.

I would like to see the length of the program be longer

The development program after the internship does not include the Information Security floor.

Advice to Potential Interns

This is a great place to do an internship. It is a great company that values their employees and really knows how to treat their interns. This is a real internship with real tasks, you definatly won't be just shuffling paperwork and getting coffee here!

Advice to Management

Please include Information Security in the development program before June 2014.

The people I worked with were very nice and enthusiastic. I felt welcome and like I was a part of the team. I was treated with respect and appreciated.

Downers

I didn't enjoy the overarching task, but I would love to continue in Risk.

Advice to Potential Interns

PNC is a great place to work for and has a great work life balance.

How Big Business is Helping the Little People

4.8 of 5 stars

Cleveland, OH | 2013 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

working with other interns, good events, good communication between mentors, managers and all others involved.

Downers

I would have liked to learn more/have done more. Worked more seriously on a big project.

Advice to Potential Interns

It's a great company and the program is great. Expect that you may have to find ways to keep yourself busy during the internships as there are heavy days but also very light days of work.

Advice to Management

I think ensuring there is enough work, but not too much for the interns is important to how they feel about their job. They might feel they accomplished or worked too little, or didn't learn enough at the end.
