PNC's Intern Program is a Step Above the Rest!

Uppers

The people and the customers that I worked with really made this experience all that it was. Without good people you can't have a good experience so thats what really stood out to me. The managers and people that I shadowed throughout these 10 weeks made the work day fun. Being professional and learning everything that I have was the most important goal but the culture and personal relationships I have established are very valuable to me too.

Downers

I did not like that we did not have access to Genis. When doing lobby engagement it would have been nice if I was able to at least deposite a check while I was working at the front desk. I dont think full on training for Gensis is necessary but just the day to day main things would be nice. Also during our presentation I didnt like that I didnt have control over changing my slides. The person changing my slides was about three slides a head of where I was in my presentation which kind of messed me up.

Advice to Potential Interns

Always be professional. Always stay humble. Ask questions and most importantly listen. Dont complain.

Advice to Management

Maybe for the interns in retail that live at home instead of giving them housing stipens give them compensation for milage instead.

Across two different groups of the bank, PNC's corporate culture drives intern's desire to work full-time

Uppers

The culture at PNC makes everything about the internship enjoyable. The facilities are state of the art, the people are friendly and encouraging, and the Bank has a tremendous reputation in the city of Pittsburgh. The intern managers did an excellent job at making sure the interns felt as though they are part of that same corporate culture.

Downers

Simply the timing of it. I would have preferred to start working a week earlier in June, and to have ended working last week. But that is just my personal preference.

Advice to Potential Interns

If you are interested in the financial services industry and want to see how an institution with a smart risk appetite and desire to grow operates, you can only get that type of experience at PNC.

PNC's rapidly-growing International Treasury Management Group: the best vantage point for learning about international banking

Uppers

Opportunities to network with managment and executives. Opportunities for ongoing training in area of work as well as other areas of the bank.

Downers

I like everything

Advice to Potential Interns

Work here if you're collaborative and innovative (and International Treasury Management is the place to be)

Advice to Management

Continue to be competetive regarding compensation.

Amazing experience to learn and develop skills

Uppers

The people I worked with, the experience I got, the real work I got to do, and the results I produced.

Downers

I really do not have any cons.

Advice to Potential Interns

Be positive, willing to learn and work hard, and strive to be a good team member and you should go far.

Advice to Management

The only thing I would suggest is starting the internship earlier in the summer.

Spend a summer finding out if the path PNC's HR department places you is the right career path for you!

Uppers

Networking, being able to see and meet a lot of people within the same team for PNC.

Downers

The HR department does not want interns to move around if they do not like the position they were assigned originally from HR.

Advice to Potential Interns

Be sure to know exactly what you want as an intern and mention that multiple times while interviewing. Once you receive an offer, be sure to check with HR before you start that the location is a department you want to intern at.

Advice to Management

Listen to interns when they mention that the department they are interning in is not what they want to do. Also, do not force interns to join a development program if they like the department they are interning in and want to become a full-time employee there.

Last few steps before moving into the real world

Uppers

Being given work/projects that leave a lasting impact

Downers

The HR department representative wasn't the best at returning emails.

Advice to Potential Interns

PNC takes care of their employees. In 3 years with PNC, I have yet to meet someone who doesn't enjoy their job and doesn't want to help new hires grow in their careers.

A Summer to Remember: How I gained 2 years worth of industry experience in 2 short months.

Uppers

The invaluable networking opportunities!

Downers

I wish it was longer than 9.5 weeks.

Advice to Potential Interns

Don't underestimate the importance of working for a company that values their employees and work-life balance. Don't let a higher salary you find elsewhere fool you! Salary isn't everything.
