Learned a ton and became friends with a ton of great people

4.8 of 5 stars

New York, NY | 2014 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

The hours compared to most banks and the culture at the firm. Got to meet a ton of senior people through different events.

Downers

Could have done more substantive work in terms of modeling, but it's to be expected as an intern.

Advice to Potential Interns

Everyone receives a return offer and in the past 63 out of 64 interns have accepted over the years.

Downers

Long hours and weekend working

Advice to Potential Interns

If you are considering working internationally, this may not be the best bank to join

Advice to Management

May consider increase the base comp in response to the recent salary increase in bulge banks

Best Internship Opportunity Available in M&A Advisory

4.6 of 5 stars

New York, NY | 2014 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Access to senior partners and mentors at the firm, quality and attitude of the full time firm members, challenging and intellectually stimulating work, and superior compensation

Downers

Client service business which leads to unpredictable hours

Advice to Potential Interns

Outstanding internship opportunity to work with the leading independent investment bank; firm members are a unique blend of incredibly intelligent and down to Earth, something I did not find anywhere else on the street

Would You Recommend

Yes

Nice colleagues, big-time deals, high compensations

Advice to Potential Interns

Great place to work

Would You Recommend

Yes

rare combination of great deal experience and phenomenal firm culture. probably the best experience you'll have in M&A

4.3 of 5 stars

New York, NY | 2014 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

transaction experience, great culture, peer mentorship, senior exposure, bounty of firm social events / coworker bonding

Downers

it is in banking after all, so you won't be able to escape the rough hours and mundane aspects of the job. but with that understanding, the general attitude towards work (no busy work, little face time, general mentality that coworkers are people and not 'assets' that appears to be sparse across wall street) ameliorates those factors to a level i found more than bearable

Advice to Potential Interns

if you are interested in M&A at all, make this your top choice. if you define the traditional tradeoff of banking as learning experience / career value versus lifestyle, this is a firm will almost certainly put you far above and to the right of the rest of wall street

Sample Interview Questions

- walk me through your resume

- why banking

- why evercore

- lots of technicals (for analyst level: three valuation methodologies, valuation multiples, DCF, accounting, enterprise value concepts, cash flow concepts, and others based on what you have on your resume)

Advice to Management

honestly, not much. from a relative perspective, compensation is already at the top of the street, but from absolute perspective can always be better, especially given all the recent positive momentum at other banks. understand they are just playing catch up but

The best aspect was the people I worked with. Both the full time employees and my fellow interns were people I would be happy to spend my career with.

Downers

As with all investment banking jobs, the hours are still unpredictable and demanding.

Advice to Potential Interns

I would think hard about the differences between bulge bracket banks and independent banks and where you see yourself personality wise at this point in your life.

Would You Recommend

Yes

The most enjoyable and educational investment banking internship you could ever imagine

The training was fantastic. I learned more in a few weeks than I learned in years at school. I felt very prepared to hit the desk. Everyone in the firm, from Analysts to Senior Managing Directors, really wants you to learn and will take significant time out of their busy day just to sit down with you and teach you something. The culture of the firm is fantastic. Everyone at all levels of the firm is extremely friendly and extremely respectful.

Downers

The groups can be a bit segregated. Sometimes the work is a bit slow to build up at the beginning.

Advice to Potential Interns

If you love to work with very nice, very smart, and very educational individuals and work on high profile, interesting deals, Evercore is the place for you. It isn't as "fratty" as some other banks (largely because our Sales and Trading group is so small), but I think this translates positively in that people are considerate and are trying to work hard and do a good job not trying to just keep up appearances.
