You will learn a lot, work hard, and meet a lot of smart and fun people.

4.4 of 5 stars

Entry-level in Economic | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

The culture, the challenging work and the ability to develop soft and hard skills, and the exit opportunities to graduate school or various quantitative fields.

Downers

The variable hours that can be intense at times.

Comments

Cornerstone Research is a phenomenal place to start your career out of undergrad. The combination of culture, the work, the skills you learn (both in terms of working with and managing others and technical skills like Excel and SAS/SQL), and the exit opportunities set this job apart from most other consulting opportunities out there. I would highly recommend Cornerstone to anyone who has an interest in consulting, and quantitative bent, and who enjoys working with and collaborating with smart, driven people.

Partner in Economic | Chicago, IL | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Supportive and collegial environment, great opportunities

Downers

Volatility of hours due to external deadlines

Comments

Do you like answering economic questions, teaching economic concepts, and figuring out how to be persuasive in an adversarial setting where another group of highly qualified people will be looking to attack your arguments? Can you handle stress and are you excited at the possibility of continuously challenging and improving yourself, with the opportunity to eventually become an owner of the firm?

Uppers

The culture.

Downers

Some managers (not all!) are too academic and don't know how to manage people.

Comments

This is a phenomenal place to work as a first job out of college. It will give you 2-5 years of growth learning both hard and (more importantly!) soft skills and will prepare you well for your next job and/or graduate school.

If you are pursuing partner-track after graduate school or from another company, I believe this firm undervalues good management skills (soft skills) and can be too pretentious about expecting a PhD (they specifically under-value MBAs in my opinion). It will take about 12 years to make partner and is not worth the time.

Incredible culture and a place where people enjoy working with each other
