I get to think every single day. I have wonderful, thoughtful colleagues at every level. I know my work will be reviewed and challenged by the opposing side's experts (in a litigation context) so there is a huge premium placed on being right.

Downers

Having to track your time daily by individual project. Moving up means I have spent more time on project management issues -- the increase in compensation is partly to account for how much less interesting that part of the job is.

Comments

We're privately held unlike many other firms in economic/litigation consulting.

We're very much oriented on the success of the people we hire here. We want to grow organically from within, not by acquiring experts with pre-existing large books of business.

Much of our work is outside of the public eye due to the confidentiality inherent in litigation, but the work is both meaningful and rewarding.

the culture, colleagues that become friends, at-work perks, leadership opportunities, career development, individualized treatment

Downers

challenging and stressful work, time-entry, working right before deadlines

Comments

As with all other economic consulting firms, Bates White is very data-intensive. You will be given opportunities to learn new programming languages, work with new and confidential data, learn about various industries, contribute to writing reports, and take ownership of what you have done. Unlike some entry-level positions, all of the work you do is very relevant and could easily be included in a final report that will go into court. It is often high-pressure and high-stress, but the company really tries to provide a work-life balance during and after work hours.
