Entry-level in Health Care and/or Pharmaceuticals | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

The culture, the peple, the type of work

Downers

Can be very analytical/numbers based, workload can vary from very little to a lot

Comments

You will likely be a good fit if:

- If you like to collaborate with others and work well on a team
- You have an analytical mindset and can communicate your results well to others
- You like problem solving and learning about new topics
- You like to smile and have a good time
- You want to stay in DC (and not travel much)
- You can be flexible with sometimes working long hours

Working with smart and dedicated colleagues

4.0 of 5 stars

Midlevel in Economic | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Working with smart and dedicated colleagues

Downers

Unpredicted and volatile working hours

Comments

Compared to other economic consulting firms, we have fewer employees and only one office. However, being small-scaled has some benefits. For example, having only one office creates a sense of unity among people, helps implementing new ideas quickly, and resolve any issues quickly.

Excellent people and mentoring with high expectations

4.1 of 5 stars

Entry-level in Health Care and/or Pharmaceuticals | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

People, career/professional development, mentoring, on-the-job training

Downers

Hours, work-life balance

Excellent first job; long-term opportunities cloudy

3.9 of 5 stars

Entry-level in Economic | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Flexibility, type of work

Downers

Lack of diversity

Comments

Good place to start after college. Can be uncomfortable for non-white male employees at times, but discomfort is easily manageable -- people are nice, if a little myopic about the demographic makeup of the firm. Don't come here expecting to find a long-term career; such posts are relatively rare. Do come here for quality exit placement in graduate school or next jobs.

Challenging work, exceptional colleagues.

Entry-level in Economic | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Colleagues, training, work

Downers

Hours, Economists as managers

Comments

Data-oriented, analytical, enjoys hard problems, quick-learner.

A place where you can think really hard with great colleagues every day

4.1 of 5 stars

Entry-level in Health Care and/or Pharmaceuticals | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Flexible schedule, challenging work, early responsibility

Downers

Gray area between the company as a work place and the company as a social outlet where social tensions dominate interactions within a cohort

Comments

Economic consulting is different from management consulting, and an individual will thrive at a place like Bates White if they know the difference and prefer economic consulting.

Excellent first job.

3.9 of 5 stars

Entry-level in Health Care and/or Pharmaceuticals | Washington, DC | 2017 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

The firm culture and collegial work environment.

Downers

The hours can be erratic but this is a function of the industry rather than the firm.
