Uppers

Job security, ability to move be promoted from within, strong culture without typical NY ****, great positioning to prosper going forward.

Downers

Fighting against client biases to go with the bulge bracket.

Comments

Baird's outlook is much stronger than most of the bulge bracket firms. Don't be drawn just by the name on a business card.

Uppers

Very good culture, all cash compensation, good work/life balance, good amount of responsiblity at junior level, impactful work

Downers

Overlooked for some work that falls tot he buldge brackets, limited ECM presence, quality of MBA candidates interest in middle market banking

Comments

I've worked at both bulge bracket and middle market firms. I personally think one has more impact on his/her clients at the middle market level at a junior level. The work/life balance is much better at a middle market firm. Also, middle market firms are more stable than bulge bracket firms so there isn't the constant risk of being let go. Overall working at a middle market bank is a more enjoyable expeirnece.
