Great Firm

4.0 of 5 stars

March 2016 | CURRENT EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Good brand and compensation. High expectations for performance. Growing firm that has made a great name for itself in a short amount of time. Have done some really high profile deals.

Downers

Top heavy and difficult to get promoted to MD. Quality of MDs can be varied depending on who you work for.

Comments

Overall a great firm with a lot of motivated employees who want to succeed. Would question long term growth plans and pace as the firm has expanded rapidly.

Work experience and level of responsibility

Downers

Long hours, difficult assignments

Comments

Important to consider what you want out of an entry level job. If you want to learn a lot but sacrifice some weekends / quality of life, there is no better place. If you want a balance, or want to have exceptional quality of life, probably not the best place to start. Given why people choose to do banking, I would say Moelis fits the extreme of working hard to learn a lot quickly.

We have a reputation for being a sweatshop. We work long hours but it's been much improved and will not be materially different than any other top investment bank

Uppers

The unique culture that encourages interaction between senior and junior bankers. The senior bankers willingness to mentor and teach junior bankers.

Comments

Moelis offers a unique opportunity to gain a generalist experience as a junior banker. They are very open to analysts leaving for other opportunities after two or three years with them. The senior bankers will be great mentors if you want them to be.

Comments

The firm has a great culture and makes sure it is monetarily competitive with any firm on the street but you'll be challenged all the time.
