2.4 of 5 stars

Mid-level in Audit & Assurance | Portland, OR | 2016 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

PTO, flexible work schedule, less hours than Big 4

Downers

Compensation below market, limited exposure to attractive clients

Comments

Good opportunities for skill development at the lower levels and much better work/life balance than the Big 4. The people and overall firm culture is easy going. There is a lot better opportunity to pave your own way working for a firm like Moss Adams as they can take on a much wider variety of clients than the larger firms.

The tradeoff is limited exposure to attractive exit opportunities and the experience won't look nearly as good on paper as Big 4. The lack of specialization within an industry group is both a positive and a negative. Positive being you learn more strict auditing skills which is beneficial to understanding financial statements and a wide variety of disclosures. Negative being these are mostly relevant to remaining in a career in public accounting rather than having a good understanding of how businesses and industries work.

Moss is heavily saturated in the Pacific Northwest and most of the firm's growth is in California and the Southwest. There are better opportunities to move up the ranks quickly in those markets.

Seattle, WA | 2016 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Diverse client base across many industry types.

Downers

Poor total compensation. Poor management. Toxic work enviroment.

Comments

The billable hour goal is reasonable, but there is an expectation to eat hours to make the job appear efficient. Additionally, there is a large amount of travel that is not compensated or allowed to be billed. The client base is strong, but with the high turnover of employees, many clients are beginning to be dissatisfied with the service provided.

Be prepared for a intense ride with a lot of ups and downs. The clients and work are interesting, but you have to manage your work/life.

The relationships with the partners. You are treated as a peer and they appear to interested in your career.

Downers

The relationships with the partners. Once on the wrong side, they will shoo you out the door very quickly. A very fine edge of politics.

Experienced in Audit & Assurance | San Diego, CA | 2015 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Uppers

Working with clients and non-management personnel.

Downers

The tone at the top of the local office is detrimental. Diversity policies are unbalanced. Work-life balance is non-existent.

Comments

Moss Adams as a whole is a great place to work. The San Diego office is not reflective of overall firm culture or San Diego culture however.

Mid-level in Audit

2.3 of 5 stars

San Diego, CA | 2012 | VERIFIED EMPLOYEE

Downers

Firm policy dictates an over-the-top attempt to attract women which borders on discrimination. As a result, many new hires are low caliber and under-qualified.

Comments

Workload is very heavy, work / life balance is constantly preached but rarely executed, employee benefits are good, compensation is adequate.
