In Reply To: I have a B.A in MIS, Marketing, and Business Admin-long story and I'm in my 30's. I currently work as a helpdesk analyst with 5 years experience with A+ certification and am working on my MCSE Microsoft Certified Sytems Engineer Certificate(Networking not software development). 1. I would like to move to the business side of technology i.e leading projects and forming strategy on I.T (eCommerce)implementations to increase sales and build a companies Brand. How do I get into a consulting firm with this type of background without an ivy league degree? (Is this possible?) 2. Do I continue with my current path which is get my MCSE, in addition get more experience leading Projects and eventually get my MBA and then apply to a consulting firm? 3. Are there other consluting firms that are not part of the big 5 that would consider me with my background? Help Thanks Lou
Message: What you want is possible...provided that you demonstrate you have the ability. My initial question is why you are working on as a helpdesk analyst? I've worked as a help desk analyst and the work quickly becomes brain numbing. Consulting companies want people who have instant "credibilty" with clients. Staffing a help desk is not it. Managing a help desk is....so is implementing CRM or service desk software... Most IT implementations require an even mix of business analysis and IT skills. I would say try to move into more of the business analysis/process side of help desk operations and you will be on your way. Forget the MSCE stuff....those are a dime a dozen. CIO's and other top management that make e-strategy could care less about those certifications.
