In Reply To: I work in a large corporation. Though my marketing department is large, my specific function has only 2 people in it - a director and myself. She and I interact well, though she assumes a great deal of control over every project and rarely is willing to loosen the reigns. At the same time, what she says I can take on (whatever I want) is very different from what she is willing to let me do in practice. How do I confront and resolve this effectively? I've had several meetings with her regarding my goals and though she is responsive in the meetings, the application is far from what is promised. Any Advise would be immensely appreciated.
Message: I agree with the others, its a personal management style issue. My former boss twice dinged me in reviews because I wouldn't "take ownership" of projects. Problem was, he wouldn't let go of them. The second review when he brought this up, I got in his face about it. "Yeah, I guess I do that, don't I...". He knew he did it, but it still showed up on my review and he never changed. AND, I came to find out, he was discussing my "problem" with his boss, giving me a black eye. The only way to deal with it is to find another position interally or otherwise. I'm convinced you will NEVER get someone above you to change. Good luck!
