In Reply To: If you seek more autonomy in your position, you will not get it with this person. People like this are very protective of their current status in the organization and probably view their level of control, as necessary for their chances of promotion. You become a tool in this environment. A person who exercises a great deal of control, when they have capable staff, is searching for a constant stream of approval from their superiors. This person is afraid to completely delegate tasks as then they may not be associated with the success of the project, which is contrary to their personal view of the climb up the corporate ladder. There are managers who can lead and those who push. She is a pusher. I don't see discussion changing her. You either have to deal with it, or look for another opportunity. Sorry, but that is what my experience tells me. LongNTooth
Message: I think you guys hit the mark with the comments of autonomy and micromanagement. I have a boss who believes himself to be open, honest and well... I think he is just short of thinking himself god. I don't believe that he has written a program from scratch on his own and he has taken credit of pretty much everything produced in the last 15 years. The kind of person they are is ingrained in them... Definitely, start looking for a new job because when your not going to get any credit or autonomy there.
