I started with Accenture about 6 months ago, and since there are no projects to be staffed on, I got laid off mid March. I am wondering if I should continue to search for consulting jobs. I recently graduated from a master degree in health management, but do not want to continue in the healthcare management industry. My undergraduate degree was cell biology. I was hoping the Accenture job was going to jump start me with some experience in the business field. Now that I am unemployed and the consulting industry is not doing so well, what additonal areas can I consider? I want to stay in the business field, but with no business experience and backgound, I feel like I have a hit a brick wall, any advice? |

I wouldn't recommend clinging to consulting, unless you are truly a masochist. That industry will take more than a few months to get back on its feet. Sounds like your degree in health management should qualify you for a variety of business positions (isn't health management a business degree?). Several analysts at my former employer (a biopharm co) are science majors, and this is not unusual.
