In Reply To: I have to agree with some of the posters who have pointed out that the culture and nature of business will likely be the difference of accepting or rejecting someone with piercings or tatoos. I used to be in the clothing business and it was very common in the world of design, art & fashion. Now, I work at a small privately-owned business. 10 employees all together. Our office assistant is young and has several piercings (tounge, eyebrow, dozens on the ears etc.). We all love her just the same. She would not be able to sport this body-jewelry at any of our client's businesses. I don't know what her future plans are, but for now, she wears the jewelrey and no one cares...it certainly does not effect her performance in any way whatsoever. She rocks!
Message: I think it's striking that the one with the piercings is the "office assistant"; in other words, NOT a high-level staff person. So if the original poster is aiming for a job at a relatively high level, she really should forget about wearing jewelry, clothing, etc. that is outside the conventional dress expected at professional levels of employment!
