In Reply To: Dear African-American female over 30 - sans the race card -it's extremely old and worn out. Obviously, company policy dictates; however, appearance has nothing to do with discrimination - it has everything to do with professionalism.
Message: Folks: An employee is not hired to "express" him or herself. He or she is hired to express the company. That means accepting the prevailing corporate culture. Visible body piercing - like clothing and jewelry - is a matter of the culture you are stepping into, not the one you yourself belong to. If you are interviewing for fashion or entertainment, a nose-ring may be an asset; if you are interviewing for banking or insurance (unless its the mailrrom) ditch the nose ring. Look at the company/industry/position you want to enter and conform.
