Message: I think I have defined my career goal - to become a CEO of a small-to-mid sized services-industry company or division CEO for a large organization. My background - age: 36, education: MBA of top 10 program, professional designation: CMA (Certified Management Accountant), experience: 15 years progressive financial management from Asst Controller of an entertainment business to Corporate Asst Controller, then Treasury and Audit Manager of the same business. Then on to a small property management and development company as Controller and VP of Finance. Cash management, business plans, present to Investors, potential investors, bankers, Multi-entity and multi-location. At most I have had 7 direct reports with no direct operational nor budget responsibility -- but plenty of indirect / consultant-type responsibility. Where do I go from here so that I can market myself as a CEO candidate? Can you recommend a 5 year (10 year?) plan? Maybe I should obtain experience in another industry as a CFO? Maybe I should enter a Fortune 500 company, take a pay cut and move up through the finance department and eventually snag an operations position? Help.
