Message: I use the term girl loosely - it wasn't intended to be derogatory - everyone is a girl or a guy to me equally. The colleague was only a year younger than I, and very professional in many aspects, except where it came to working with others and being proactive. Professional feedback from others since she left has made it clear she was difficult with others as well. The situation was concerning to me in that it was the first time I had encountered this kind of attitude, toward work or to me, and every supportive or encouraging thing I did was thrown back at my face or ignored. Personally we had a good relationship, even going on a weekend away with others, until she left and the truth surfaced. I regret the number of times I defended her behaviour to others now. I've learned a few things from this - don't give people the benefit of the doubt more than twice, don't take everything at face value, and that your starsign has a lot to do with your work personality!!! Some folks are just difficult. Though, perhaps you're right - taking an informal view like 'girl' could be my downfall - too friendly and trusting by far. perhaps keeping everyone at arm length and only looking out for number one is the way to go. Sounds horrible though!
