I am a Marketing Manager - overseeing a corporate marketing department for 500+ employee firm. My boss has no marketing education / experience; his 15+ years background is in a completely different area. The problem is that he always takes credit for my work and ideas to compensate for his lack of "know-how", and to look good in front of the board of directors / president. HR is unreceptive, what should I do? |

An Art Director was once hired for the graphics team of my development company. He was making over 150K - and did absolutely nothing - he criticized everyone and took advantage by taking the credit for the beautiful work the graphics designers had done. Well he didn't last too long and was gone in about 2 months. The only reason why he lasted so long was because he used to spend time in the CEO's office blabbing how wonderful he was and how much he was contributing to the company and how much was lacking in his department
My point is in twofold:
a) toot your horn
b) People who stand on quicksand eventually get pulled in.
Tell the people _who count_ what you are doing and how much effort was involved. Eventually you will be heard and that manager/director or whatever will have to give account for his actions/capabilities.
Good luck!
