Recently I was "asked to resign" from my position when I asked for a raise I was promised. Around that time, I sent off a resume for a new position.
They called me for an interview and I just agreed with him that I was still employed. I figured it wasn't a big deal and I didn't know how to explain why I left. The fact is, the company I left was a place a lot of people were trying to get into.
Well, wouldn't it turn out that the company I lied to hired me! I got a promotion and huge raise. I start in a few weeks.
Now I am afraid they will find out I am not going from the old job straight to the new one. The only thing I can think of is to say that I gave my notice and they asked me to leave at that time. Telling the complete truth at this point is not an option becasue the possibility of hurting my credibility or getting fired would cause major problems. The gap between jobs is almost 2 months end to beginning!
Please advise.

Let me get this straight, insead of discussing advancement opportunities, or discussing areas of possible improvement you were fired when you requested a raise.
It appears as if all of the relevant information is not being presented.
In any case, there should be fear that the new company will find out about the date of termination at the prior location. One of the things that previous employers do generally mention is active employment dates. If the only option is to further compromise business ethics, you have to decide for yourself if this is the price you are willing to pay for a position.
Frankly, it appears from your letter that you did not tell the truth in writing either. A guess is that you were fired for attendance, or something else embarrassing that you did not awant to have it discussed.
