In Reply To: We had a recent situation where a part of our company was shut down and the one remaining staff member was reassigned to work with me in Interactive. I am the web manager, with waay too much to do, but this woman does NOT want to help me at all. She's a Project Manager and thinks she is above admin and doesn't want to take orders from anyone except the big boss. So I"m faced with the frustrating situation of having too much to do, yet sitting there watching and listening her do nothing, well, except plan her family holidays, talk to her sister long distance etc. The thing is, I don't want to order her around, I just want to balance out the workload between the two of us. I've got more experience AND education, as well as years on her, but she's just so difficult. It's starting to affect my relationship with the bosses, as they know what the situation is, but have yet to do anything - it's been four months of hell. What can I do to encourage HER to take action herself, as well as telling the bosses to do their job too? It's frustrating and I'm now considering moving on - even though I love where I am!! Help!
Message: Next time assignments are handed out, simply state what your current work load is and suggest that the offer this assignment to your co-worker. If you are missing any deadlines, or are racking up a lot of hours, point this out to your boss, and ask that some of your assignments are redistributed. Also, try sending weekly status updates of what you are working on to your manager, just as an FYI. No need to state that she is not pulling her weight, just focus on you and your position. If you focus on her you will come across as a complainer, which is deadly for your career.
