In Reply To: I had a mind-numbingly boring job for two years, and it doesn't get better. Eventually I gave up on asking my boss for more work. What you need to do is volunteer for work. Find something you want to do and ask if you can do it. If your boss turns you down, try asking co-workers if they need help with anything. Not only will this make you "look busy" but you might actually learn some new skills. Another thing you can do is start teaching yourself some new software. Most have on-line tutorials, or just browse through the "help" section and read up on stuff. Or take a class and do your homework at work (don't get caught!). I ended up doing data entry for a co-worker and learning about databases. My boss still didn't care what I was doing, but a I got some good experience and a very nice severance package out of the deal! I've had a much better job for about a year now, but I still have that fear that I'll run out of things to do. I'mm constantly asking my boss what's next, I volunteer to help other departments, and mainly I identify things that need doing and I do them.
Message: I am of the belief that your job is really what you make it. It's great to see that you have taken the initiative to find other things to do in your downtime rather than complain about being bored!
