i originally posted this message, and since they I have a new job. Sorry to report, folks, that it's the same situation. the first 2 months were great, I was sooooo busy, then the work died down, and here I am back at the vault site. I've yet again asked for more work and have gotten zero response.
I just don't get it. |

I had a mind-numbingly boring job for two years, and it doesn't get better. Eventually I gave up on asking my boss for more work. What you need to do is volunteer for work. Find something you want to do and ask if you can do it. If your boss turns you down, try asking co-workers if they need help with anything. Not only will this make you "look busy" but you might actually learn some new skills. Another thing you can do is start teaching yourself some new software. Most have on-line tutorials, or just browse through the "help" section and read up on stuff. Or take a class and do your homework at work (don't get caught!). I ended up doing data entry for a co-worker and learning about databases. My boss still didn't care what I was doing, but a I got some good experience and a very nice severance package out of the deal!
I've had a much better job for about a year now, but I still have that fear that I'll run out of things to do. I'mm constantly asking my boss what's next, I volunteer to help other departments, and mainly I identify things that need doing and I do them.
