(I have also posted this in "Internet," since this type of problem seems to affect Internet professionals frequently.)
I had a disagreement with my ex-employer at the time of the layoff, but I agreed to do a certain amount of continued work for a client that I had been donating my time for pro bono since January. Now they are saying they will deny my unemployment claim. I don't know why yet - I suspect they are trying to extort further work from me (pro bono).
What grounds do they need to deny my claim, and what can I do to protect myself? I suspect they will try to claim that they let me go for cause, because we were not on good terms when I left. I just want to move forward, but they won't allow this.
How do I walk away and still collect unemployment?
