Hi
I'm graduating this year and starting my first "real" full-time job in the fall. For all you have been there and done that, can you shed some light as to what I should/shouldn't do?
Everyone says "Be yourself", which is good advice but just wondering if there is anything else that can make this first experience a good one. |

After twenty years, this is what I have learned: Make friends, but don't get too involved in co-worker's personal problems. Stay close to your boss, and learn everything you can about him/her, but don't get involved in his/her personal problems. Have respect for the secretaries and accounting personnel, and you will go to the top very quickly! Smile, every morning when you come in and tell everyone "Good Morning!" Then at the end of a long, hard day, tell everyone what a good job they did! And the most important lesson I learned... Even if you wear a coat and tie, and sit in the most plush chair in the office, if the mail room needs some assistance, don't be afraid to roll up your sleeves and dig in! Although you might think on the surface this is degrading, you will gain high respect from everyone in the company! I've seen it work. Take care, and good luck! PS: Don't get too involved in other's personal problems!!
