My manager called me today & said that they are changing my title from Managing Director to Senior Manager (which removes me from the managing director team of which I was originally hired to be part of a year ago). They are also adding a management layer between me and my current manager, that myself and 2 admins will be reporting to, meanwhile the other managing directors (3) are staying the same and will be on the same level as this new management layer. I asked if this was performance related & he said they were very pleased with my performance and this change was just purely organizational. I wouldn't have an issue with this if everyone else was changed, or if my title was changed, but still part of the management team. I told him that this sounded like a demotion & he said my feelings were unwarranted, that it isn't. They have not hired this new layer of management & did not provide me with further information. I am very put off by this because the org chart now shows me below the team I have been a part of, I'm the only one affected by this. Any advice would be helpful. I have never had any performance issues, if anything I have exceeded my goals, etc. |

If it looks like a demotion & sounds like a demotion, it's a demotion.
It doesn't look like you're advancing in that company. I would look elsewhere if I were you.
