In Reply To: I tried to catch my supervisor on Friday to let him know I'm resigning in 2 weeks(which is the last Friday of the month) but wasn't able to do so. I'd like to give notice on Monday morning for the same termination date (last Friday of the month) - does that technically count as 2 weeks for professional courtesy formality reasons? I should note that I had thought about leaving a few weeks ago after talking to my boss over our disagreement over duties as the job is only about 10% of what was advertised and 90% of unexpected duties (non-substantive work that may have been assigned to me because it has been traditionally given to women - my male co-worker appears to get more substantive work)and because it is an extremely negative working environment for other reasons. I stayed because I thought the situation would improve but it hasn't, and as a curtesy because he asked me to, at least just until May (as he seems to have difficulty in hiring and/or retaining employees). In any case, the job was not suppose to last beyond the middle to the latter part of the month but my boss seems to be under some assumption that it will just continue. Further, it is an informal, small office work environment (and, as of next week when another employee leaves, it will be just me and him) so there's no large company HR department or employment formalities. My boss usually acts like he's in rush and only wants to talk about work-related assignments and not about things like management or employee concerns - hence, the reason I couldn't catch him on Friday. Also, he'll be in another office on Monday and he said he didn't know when he'd be back at the office I work in but he constantly calls so I'll talk to him then. Although it may be, in normal situations, best to do this and present a formal letter in person, I don't want to prolong this situation. Also, because some of his actions can be seen as questionable at times, I know that I should submit a formal notice so that he can't say that I hadn't given him proper notice (ie. that I quit on the spot) or fired me. Thus, I was thinking that I would just fax a copy to him in the other office and leave the original on his desk at my location for him when he returns. I also thought about emailing him so that the date would be on the email. What would you do? Any advice would be appreciated.
Message: Sorry 2 weeks is 2 weeks. You should / must maintain the proper timetable. You never know when something like this will work to your advantage.
