While I was in college I worked for Home Depot Expo Design Center. I started in the In-stock dept. Eventually down the line they had me working in the Bath showroom and in-stock. It was double the work and no extra pay.
Politics played a key role in everything in that company. Their were two types of people, the type management liked an the typed they disliked. Naturally if you were on the good side life was easier, but I have seen some people get treated very unfairly simply because they were disliked. They would have their jobs threatend, be forced to do more work than their counter-parts, etc. The company is totally out of control, awfull management, unmotivated employees. I find most of the people working their hated it, I woud say 75% to be exact. Everyone else was their for the benefits. A lot of laid off baby boomers who needed insurance basically. I quit for a position in financial advisory and I am glad I did it.
There is little room for growth with HD. A lot of disguntled employees. And there are always a million customer problems happening at once and not enough employees to deal with them.
If you go to HR, after seeing the SM. You will probably be gettin on his bad side and I am sure he will not give you a raise anyway. I suggest take the responsibilites, gain more managerial experience and then find a company that treats their employees better. Their are a lot of places out their that you can deal with less stress, and still have the great benefits. |

Funny, but that is the company that I am having issues with.
At my store, the management team has heard my specific complaints and they have sought out my perspective because people are leaving due to these practices. This is a new management team and they desperately want to stop the "hemmoraging".
That being said, my comp has not been advanced -- instead they pulled back all full time hours 7.5% to "make profit plan".
I am there only for the benefits (education reimbursement) and also to gain retail management experience. Your comments about Expo are very correct and your advice is very much close to my current perspective.
I will visit the comp issue vs. actual responsibilities at the 6-month point and see what happens at the 1-year mark. If nothing happens, then I will see if the education benefits alone makes it worth while to stick it out.
No other company I know of gives such a generous education break -- perhaps that is why they feel they can misrepresent you in other areas.
