In Reply To: I had a similar problem during a 6-month contract job with my last employer. My direct supervisor was a micromanager and tried to control my every step. She found it offensive if I took the initiative to seek more work from other people. It made me miserable. During my exit interview, I found out that HR is and EXTREMELY valuable resource. That is the very reason they put them there. Usually, anything you tell them is in confidence and they can help direct you on how to handle the situation. If that doesn't work, you can always go to your bosses superior. But I would save that as a last resort if the HR channel doesn't work. I regret not using that avenue when I had the chance. For all you know (as I eventually found out), the company may already have their eye on your boss. Good luck!
Message: type a, nervous, dominant, bullying type managers...always trying to pick on things or ways to belittle...and working that into their words. honestly, going to HR did nothing for me in my circumstance. HR does work for the owners and management...not for you. Ask any HR person on this board about that conflict. Talking with the manager might work temporarliy but they will rarely change their stripes and cater to the style you prefer. if an employee can't enjoy and thrive in the work environment, and the manager doesn't manager properly, you have no choice i am afriad
