In Reply To: In my organization someone got promoted to a high level, VP and they don't even have a college degree (one is in process though). Also the VP titles are handed out here in such a manner that those of us who are VPs feel that the title has no efficacy any more. Its because our general manager said once he doesn't feel that advanced education (i.e., an MBA) is necessry in financial services. DUH. Its just an ongoing pattern of being out of touch with the times. Now the question: If I feel that the promotion is not warranted or deserved should I still congratulate the promotee or stay silent? Any comments are welcome.
Message: By all means congratulate the person. (S)he has attained something, and should not be punished just because your GM still thinks it??s 1952. Besides, this person is likely held in high esteem by the GM, otherwise (s)he would not have received a promotion that is less than fully deserved. Any actions on your part that appear to be even slightly resentful will backfire on you when the GM hears about it (and count on the fact that the GM will hear about everyone??s response to this promotion, positive or negative).
