I think a few actions are appropriate.
First, never discuss infomration with an unknown person that you believe could be harmful if revealed to a third party. The phrase "just between us" is often a catalyst for spreading unwanted information.
Second, if you are sure it was this colleague, speak to them in a calm, professional tone indicating that the conversation was confidential and that you expect them to honor their agreements in the future. I would not speak to them that you think your position with your boss might be jeopardized -- remember this could get back to your boss as well.
Thirdly, I would thank your boss for his support and that you appreciate him telling you that your job is secure. Don't beat this to death, it's normal in this economy for people to fear for their jobs. But harping on it could turn it into a bigger issue. |
