In Reply To: Need help!! Is there something I can do/should do when I feel that my colleague told our boss what I told her to keep just between us? In one of my conversations with this colleague, I mentioned that I was very sad and confused early part of this year due to some misguided directions for my role due to the re-org/re-structuring in our company. And I feel, it????s maybe the right time for me to consider other positions. (may be not the right term I used????). This colleague just joined us recently and we had some casual chats. Told her to keep it between us. However, it feels that our boss learned about my doubts. He sent the 2 of us an email recently, saying ???? your current roles are secure within the department????????. I????m more worried about my future relationship with my boss rather than my security in the job. Seems that there will be ????trust???? issues with my boss. Is there anything I should do here? Please help. Thanks
Message: Your situation is unfortunate, but I would consider it an example of keeping some things to yourself, or at the very least to people that you REALLY trust; frinds, coworkers you have known for years and really know where they stand when it comes to the area of trust. To be honest, you did say that this person was new, and you siad you talked about some pretty personal thoughts regarding work. Personally, I would take a deep breath, smile, and decide to be a little less open and do my best to continue doing the best work I can do, and consider it a 'cheap' lesson. Next time, keep casual chat to casual. ( Please understand that I am not saying YOU did anything wrong! It's just the realities of the workplace... good, bad, indifferent.) By the way, it sounds like your boss isn't too hip on human relations (he sent an email???) I could think of a number of ways to reassure my employees of their security (if I felt I REALLY needed to) than sending an impersonal email, like it was the 'memo of the day'. Just some quick thoughts. Very sorry about what happened.
