Yes, do chip in. You will look very unprofessional if you exclude yourself and bring about questions and comments from others that are not necessary. Think about it from this vantage point:
The person is leaving. That is a small price to pay to be rid of this individual. You do not have to attend the function. You could have a "conflict of interest" with the farewell party and have another engagement to attend.
