Message: For me, I already have three strikes, although I am not Black / a "Sister": 1) Female 2) Overweight 3) Over 50 yrs old And yes, I do wear braids to work. Not corn-rows, or weaves, because I looked terrible in them even when I was 20 and tried those styles because they looked good on several of my friends (some dark, some light, some "Sisters," some not). But I do some creative, conservative, classy braids that do look very attractive and professional. For me, a single french braid or a reverse french braid (from top of head to nape of neck)looks nice, and can be dressed up with strung pearls or ribbon worked through (matching my blouse, suit, or dress) with a simple bow at the bottom, with the 'tail' left loose below or tucked in (for more formal situations/meetings with top company brass &/or customers). And for very important company events / occasions, I have actually been asked to do a very regal looking reverse french braid crown (that I rarely wear because it is so complicated to keep even and not have a crazy zigzag in the center [from where I am taking the hair- unlike my "Sisters'," my floppy straight hair doesn't hold together smoothly when doing complicated braids]). Or on 'casual' days, two half-reverse french braids worked from the front on both sides to meet & join for a short way on the back, with the rest of my hair loose. This is quick, easy, comfortable, and goes well with sweaters and 'dress down' shirts. Bottom line : a) does it look good on you? b) is it neat, does it stay neat? c) are you professional in bearing, attitude, dress, behavior? NOT: Are you passing for white European. Some people are most comfortable and most formal/professional in djabalahs or dashiki's.
