thanks everyone for you opinions and advice. aside from the braids issue - or maybe deeper down in it - i'm concerned about my image as a "minority professional" rather than simply as a "professional." do you know what i mean? i worry that by looking "too ethnic," i risk building up my career and finding mainstream success. i hate that i'm saying this, but it's true. =gladyss |

. . .if it's any consolation, business women in africa also conform (and suits and panty hose in 90 degree weather are sheer torture).but look at silicon valley--people started their own companies, and became so valuable that they are now wearing jeans and t-shirts to work, and stuffy law firms begging for their business now have to "dress down" to attract extremely lucrative dot-com clients. . .
