I am sick of hearing people talk about the glass ceiling, as impressive a concept as it was in conception. Truth of the matter is, in this day and age, women are rarely stopped on the rise. We have proven ourselves equal and, if we can manage to have or not have a family and remain entirely devoted to our jobs, there's rarely a cause for some "evil white man" to prevent a rise to the top. What happens in 1999 is that women are boxed into glass walls without ceilings. We are spoken to differently and considered more of a co-worker than a potential friend in the business place. The higher up we go, the more the walls narrow. I think we can make it to the top, but in my experience, we're still going to be pretty lonely up there. At least, those of us who don't chop off our hair, smoke cigars and assume the missionary gruffness. Anyone agree? I'm speaking from inside the entertainment industry, perhaps things are very different elsewhere.
