Recently I was in the library with a pile of VC industry guides trying to research out who are the biggest and best firms within the industry. Vault's guide side-steps the issue, so I was off on my own research hunt. Only to find that there are thousands upon thousands of firms all uniquely different.
Can someone tell me either where I can go to find the top 10, or can someone just list them out?
I know this brings up different points of view of who might be the best, but generally who is most recognized in the industry as the leaders?

Anyone out there know any boutique financial firms specializing in either M&A, Fixed Income, Private Equity,or Research? Where could I obtain a list of firms that are in this particular sector of the financial industry?
