Coming from a top 2 strat firm... |

I am about to finish my first year at one of the top 2 strategy consulting firms and have a BS in Biomedical Engineering from a top university. I would love to get into Biotech VC or start my own company, but am not sure of the best route. One option I have been considering is a MD/MBA--I scored in the 99th percentile on both the MCAT and GMAT, so hopefully I could get into Harvard or Stanford. These are 5 years programs and considering that I do not want to practice medicine, I am not sure if this is the best use of my time. I am just worried that I will not have enough scientific credibility without a MD or PhD. Any thoughts? |

you shouldn't even need to ask this question; some of your predecessors at the firm had to have made an entry into VC.
Many firms have associate or analyst positions for people like you -- though bankers are disproportionately represented. I would talk to folks at the firm itself; to go to grad school to get into VC is a ridiculous waste of your time. You'd be better served getting into a VC firm at the analyst/associate level, spending two years there, going to grad school (HBS or GSB) and then trying your hand at a more senior position in a VC firm.
