In Reply To: Hi, I have a quick question...I am quite keen to enter a VC because I have been told I would be quite good "raw material"..my biggest problem is entering is lack of experience....but I have discovered a role which would be quite useful to VC's but I would not want to get stuck doing it. The role is the following, an HR consultant within the VC. Most VC's spent there time investing in new companies and understanding business models but most forget to build the right teams of the companies they invest in..I mean I know theybuild the roight management teams becasue that is essential in a good business plan...but eventually these businesses must grow..and these companies don't have the skills to recruit the right people in order for the companies to survive. So back to my intial question...if I develop this role..would I get stuck in it???I would be a great asset to a VC in terms of bringing in business as one of my best skills at the moment is Client relationships and contacts. I would like to develop my analytical skills. I researched thousands of careers and I must say only one in VC would combine people skills and analytical skills to effect the bottom line. Any feedback would be greatly appericated...thanks
Message: Yes VCs are using inside HR Pros more and more but they tend to only hire very very seasoned, top-tier, folk as partners and this is an uncommon position. Your fear of being trapped in that HR role is very real. If that is your function how will you get the deal experience to move over if that's what you really want (they are not related like accounting). "Hey Bob lets have the HR guy negotiate the registration rights. " No Teddy he is too busy working on the warrants for the convertible bridge loan" I don't think so. Last and most painful point: you said "my biggest problem in entering is lack of experience". Well that's one of the most important things. VC is not really a "raw material" kind of field, so in that respect you have been misdirected. There are a some places that hire the less experienced Associates but that is not the norm. GO GET REAL BUSINESS EXPERIENCES is my advice. material" kind of feild, so in that respect you have been misdirected. There are a few places that hire the less expericenced and train but that is not the norm. GO GET REAL BUSINESS EXPERINCES!
