Hi all. Appreciate sincere and helpful comments...
I have an upcoming interview for associate position at a PE (European Bank). My background is 2 years in a prestigious boutique consulting firm and 2 years in executive level management (Strat planning and Marketing) at 2 Internet Companies (both ran out of money)... I only have a BS Econ from Wisconsin. Didn't think I'd even get an interview. lucky i guess (however, i should say that i do have excellent resume composing skills).
I must admit I am very unknowledgable in the world of PE and do not have any idea what to expect of the interview. I've been doing some research but have come across sites that mostly discuss deals that have been done and not the basic nuts and bolts of the PE world. I am somewhat familiar with PE from the sell side pov because i've participated in fund raising for the Internet companies i've worked at. however, i'm sure there's lots of insider type info that i have no clue about. anybody know where i can really learn about the PE world? websites? books? etc.
also, 4 years ago after undergrad, I interviewed at all the top consulting firms and i-banks, so i am quite familiar with case interviews, brain teasers, and the random silly questions (usually asked by i-bankers... e.g. "what's 12x24?").
is there a typical "PE interview"? for example, in consulting, the case interview is universally used and market sizing questions are common. in IB, lots of valuation questions, simple math exercises, etc. are asked...
thanks for your help. appreciate it. |
