I have read a lot of posts on this board about getting into the VC industry. How about someone tell me what it takes to make it in the VC industry? I have read two books on VC so far. What I get so far is that a firm must specialize in the field that it invests in to be a real success and that the firm should strive to create a brand name. Is this true? |

Good question - as a seasoned exec I look at the VC market with interest too.
If a guy /gal has 15-17 yrs exp, in Sales/ Mkt and BD @ a senior VP level for some of it can he/she score a job in a VC? As what I wonder?
WIth in depth technology background and ops exp it would seem to me you could add value at a Firm. Particuarly some I have pitched to in the past - its all spreadsheets adn the same lame 10 questions. Then they wonder where did my money go!!
VC are fast becoming the new conservative low risk banks of the new century.
Anyway rant over. I'd like to here from any real VC out there on where they think a person could fit in this climate with the aforementioned skills set.
