How does a venture capital firm raise there capital and from where? From my understanding is that they contact pension funds and high net worth individuals and suggest they invest with them. Please let me know if this is correct or if there are other ways they do this.

Your assumptions are correct. Most venture firms raise their capital from institutional investors (pension funds, endowments) and/or provate individuals.
