Message Name: Decided Against Working for VC Firm

In Reply To: i don't think there is any major downside to taking an undergraduate *internship* with a small shop. in fact it's pretty good to demonstrate that you had early curiosity about the industry. and congrats on getting the position, not many vc's offer internships. just be wary about taking a 1-2 year full time position with a cruddy firm...that's a little harder to rationalize.
Message: My enthusiasm for working for the small VC in Manhattan has diminished considerably. I don't believe it's worth it to work for anything other than a top tier 1 firm and they don't hire anyone less than an MBA or advanced tech or engineering degree or someone with operational experience. I didn't get good vibes at the place the bunch of times I worked there. I strongly suspect that a lot of mom 'n pop VCs are going to close shop or go nowhere in the next coming years. And, if there's any money to be made the managing partners or founders as well as the investors are the only ones who are going to make $$$.
