My experience is the same. I have been receiving their mail for months, applied to a few opportunities, never went any further. |

Patience is something most candidates lack. Understandable..since a person without work is a person who must find something to support the lifestyle they've carved out for themselves.
Putting a candidate together with the exact right position and the exact right company is like looking for a needle in a haystack. That's the norm rather than the exception.
Admittedly, there are candidates who are much more marketable than others and perhaps have more diverse backgrounds which makes them easier to place. Or for that matter very specific backgrounds which narrows the field of search. Also, some candidates are far more clear and concise about what they want and don't want...making them easier to work with as well.
But when a recruiter has to take into consideration the candidates relocation preference, salary requirements, career dreams and goals and if all that becomes extremely specific and limited, it's going to take TIME.
There is no way around it. Just because you've been working with a firm for months with no results, does not mean they won't find you something or are not still trying. Unless of course for some reason they have concluded that you are not a very strong candidate...for whatever their reasons may be...false or true.
Candidates who continually blame recruiters for lack of action in finding them a position, are either not doing enough of their own homework or have not yet found the right firm to work with.
One major thing to keep in mind when choosing a firm is to consider where the majority of their clients are based. If you live in CT and want to stay in CT, but are working with a firm far far away from that location, chances are you'll be waiting a long time.
Most recruiters tend to market more heavily in their specific region. Since this way they can develop stronger relations with their clients by meeting with them and taking them to lunch etc. Which strenghtens their presence with that Company.
And in light of that, most Companies would prefer to see candidates who are local to that region so as to avoid relocation costs.
Find a good firm in the area you want to locate yourself and then keep doing more and more homework on your own and you'll have that dream job alot sooner.
Rest on your laurels and let one or two firms do all the work for you...then expect to be on the bench alot longer.
