I was just reading that the head of Draper Fischer left the firm to return to investment banking. It seems that a lot of VC firms have been having problems in Asia. Their internet boom started a bit later and it would seem a great place to go for new deals. Why are firms having more trouble over there? Is it harder for them to establish partnerships and deals with Asian companies? Has anyone worked at a US VC firm in Asia? Any stories? |

More relationship-centric market. Less mature capital markets [understatement]. Less established deal flow. Existing deal flow "owned" by banks/corporates. Greater cultural emphasis on being established, having a history.
